2009/10 Championship Winners

 

The Vets Championship was won by the Tuesday League team of Ken Miller skip, Robin Hamilton, third, Harry Holmes, second and Geoff Cackett Lead. The final score was 8-2.

The Thursday Bonspiel was won by the Ian McGregor team with John Callaghan and Douglas Goddard (only 3 in the team) with a score of +8

 

The Friday Bonspiel was won by the Brian Short team with Malcolm Wylie and Peter Lothian (only 3 in the team) with a score of +9

Team Changes

 

Monday League 

Robert Mackenzie out for several weeks due to fall and broken arm (Douglas Sands team)

Bob Milne has pulled out of Ivan Robson's  team for the rest of the season on medical

advice. Hopes to return next season.

 

Tuesday League 

Andrew Donaldson has had to pull out of curling this season due to a fall. John Hammond will take his place in Ron Nicol’s team

Norman Banks hopes to return in the New Year after surgery. 

Roger Gifford is out for the rest of the season due to illness.  Ken Wilburn will take his place.

 

Thursday League

Tom Paton has had to pull out of Ian McGregor’s team due to health reasons. Stan Howard has taken his place for the rest of the season.

 

Friday League

Stan Banks is unwell and has pulled out of Bill Ford's team meantime - Robin Reid to stand in.

Tom Gray is out for several weeks due to surgery - Cron Mackay will take his place

meantime in Bill Manson's team

Christmas Bonspiels

 

The Tuesday bonspiel was won by the Tom Paton team with Hamish Fraser (third) Keith Walker (second) and Cron Mackay (lead). The score was plus 6 shots.

The runners up were the Bruce Todd team with a score of plus 5 shots

 

The Thursday Bonspiel was won by the John Ross team (Gordon Wood, Ian Knox and Duncan Cursiter) with a score of +8

 

The Friday Bonspiel was won by the George McLeod team (Ron Seiler, Allan Smith and David Boyd) with a score of +11. Joint runners-up were the Drew Lamont and Mike Spooner rinks with +8.

 

 

National Curling Academy

Tom's Eight Ender

 

Tom Ewing’s team in the Monday League had an eight at the sixth end against Angus Winton on 2nd November.  The final score was 12-4. Tom’s team was 3rd Brian Short, 2nd Bill Orr and Jim Bryce lead.

 

The last recorded time this happened in the Vets was on 13th October 1998 when John Lamotte’s team got an eight at the last end against Tom Gorrie’s team.

 

Mount Everest Expedition

 

During last season Dougal Drysdale, professor emeritus of Edinburgh University and member of the club's Thursday league, took part in an expedition to the Base Camp at Mount Everest. To read his account of the experience click on Everest Expedition.
