Watch the signals
Guard
Broom horizontal. Don't come up to it on any account.
Draw
Broom drawn slowly across the ice to the position skip wants the stone to finish. Watch your weight.
Come up to it
Hand tapped on top of broom in front of a stone.Come right up to it. Don't be short but don't knock it on more than a fraction.
Strike
Hand across top of broom. The extent of the hand from the top of the broom will show how much the stone has to be moved.
Full Strike
Broom held up perpendicularly. Little or no ice will be given and a strong delivery must be made to ensure hitting the stone target hard.
Hold or Up
Stop sweeping immediately. The head of the broom knocked on the ice - very important when there is a lot of noise.
Tee
The position of the tee is indicated by the broom held perpendicularly over it.
The Circle
The front of the circle can be indicated by swinging the broom in an arc around it.
Port
Space between two stones.
